New K-Pop Groups 2026: The Debut Class So Far (Jan–Sep)

The 2026 debut class is not subtle. Per KProfiles' running tracker, more than twenty new K-pop groups launched between January and April 2026 alone — on top of an already crowded 2025 class. The pace held through the summer, and kpopping's 2026 debut index lists 78 acts by late September. Nobody can follow all of them, and you should not try. Here is the map: what actually debuted, the patterns underneath, and how to pick which new K-pop groups of 2026 earn a slot in your feed.

January came out swinging

Seven groups debuted in January 2026 alone. The month's roll call, per KProfiles: LATENCY (January 8), COMMA (January 9), the eight-member ALPHA DRIVE ONE (January 12), Lngshot (January 13), ChRocktikal (January 15), DROP (January 23) and MY:RAKL (January 26). Notice the sizes — LATENCY, COMMA, Lngshot and DROP all launched with just four members, and ChRocktikal with four as well. A four-member debut was a rarity in the 3rd and 4th generations; in 2026 it is January's default setting, and it is an economics story: smaller teams cost less to train and promote, and they survive longer on mid-sized fandoms.

February–April: one experiment per week

The spring brought the class's boldest bet: SAVVVY, debuted February 24 with fifteen members — Soohyun, Yujin, HYO and twelve more — the kind of roster size not attempted since the large-formation era of tripleS and IZ*ONE-adjacent projects. The same window produced Daily:Direction (February 23, six members, already on their second single "MONKEY MODE" by July), the seven-member Chaser (February 25), March's TUNEXX, V01D, S2iT, NXMERCY, Stritz, AmbiO and OWIS, and April's Keyvitup, hartz.wav, seven-member MODYSSEY and six-member girl group UNCHILD (April 21). Twenty-plus debuts, and that is before anyone counts the 2025 holdovers still promoting — the full generational context is in our 5th gen explainer.

May–September 2026: the summer debuts

The second half of the debut year leaned on faces viewers had already met. Five of the seven launches below came out of a TV competition or an existing group — the opposite of January's four-member unknowns.

The number that matters is And2ble's. Its debut EP sold 731,673 copies in its first week, which Forbes' Jeff Benjamin ranked second among 2026 rookie debut weeks, behind only ALPHA DRIVE ONE, per Wikipedia; eight days after debuting, the group had its first music-show trophy. A lineup of ex-ZEROBASEONE members is not really a rookie in fandom terms, and the sales say the market priced it that way. OURBIRTHDAY is the agency story: the Korea Times calls it the first JYP-affiliated girl group since NMIXX in 2022. And Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung debuting as a unit shows the year's other trend, veterans relaunching in new shapes, which carries into SEVENTEEN's JxJ on October 19 in the October comeback calendar.

September is the gap in the table. YG Entertainment said on April 30 that a five-member boy group, its first in six years, would debut in September, and the Korea Herald reported in July that SM's next boy group was due later this year. As of September 27 we had found no dated debut release for either, so neither is on the table yet.

How to actually filter this

Three practical filters beat trying to follow everything. First, agency weight: the 2025 big-agency class — KickFlip (JYP), Hearts2Hearts (SM), CORTIS (BigHit) — still owns most of the attention, and any 2026 group has to route around them (CORTIS goes into the September 27 MTV VMAs with three nominations, and its leader Martin was writing for ILLIT and TXT before it debuted); our Hearts2Hearts guide shows what that head start looks like. Second, second-release speed: rookies that ship a follow-up inside six months — like Daily:Direction — are groups whose agencies still believe; a long post-debut silence is usually the beginning of the quiet end. Third, format bets: SAVVVY's fifteen members and the four-member wave are opposite answers to the same cost question, and only one of them has to work. YG's five-member boy group and SM's next boy group, both announced for this year, had no dated release as of September 27.

Mina's Take

The uncomfortable math: the average fan adopts one, maybe two new groups a year, and 2026 is shipping twenty-plus in a half. Most of this class will not see a third comeback — that is not cynicism, it is arithmetic, and the agencies know it; the four-member wave is them pricing failure in advance. The detail most coverage misses is that the interesting bet is not any single group, it is SAVVVY as a format test — fifteen members is only sustainable with sub-unit rotation, so their structure, not their song, is the product. My prediction, checkable by mid-2027: fewer than a third of the January 2026 debut class posts a comeback within twelve months of debut. If more than half of them do, the market is healthier than I am giving it credit for.

What to watch next

  • Recent debuts on an awards bill: ALPHA DRIVE ONE and CORTIS were on the 17-act lineup at The Fact Music Awards in Busan on September 19 — the night Kim Soo-hyun returned to a Korean stage as a presenter.
  • The next awards bill: MAMA 2026 runs November 20–21 at Kyocera Dome Osaka, and our MAMA Awards 2026 guide explains which prizes fan votes actually move.
